The Quebec Open kicked off 2012 with a full weekend of superb games, great drama, and a fight to the throne! There was a lot on the line as this event also hosted ranking points for the World Darts Federation (WDF), British Darts Federation (BDO), and the National Darts Federation of Canada (NDFC).
With the invitation from the WDF to the World Masters in England later this fall on the line, the singles competition was fierce! Cindy Pardy of Alberta and Canada's #1 ranked lady strutted her stuff over the weekend taking 3 golds which includes the ever sought after Ladies Singles title.
Pardy met Quebec's own Diane Gobeil in the ladies final. With the home town crowd behind her Gobeil could only watch as Pardy claimed her crown. Pardy also won the ladies doubles with Yvonne Martin Cowhig of Ontario & the Mixed Triples event with fellow Albertans Terry Hayhurst & Norm Tremblay.
In a worthy mention Tremblay also chalked up the Men's doubles title with Terry Hayhurst and the Mixed Doubles title with Robin Curry of Ontario.
On the Men's side Marcel Simard the defending champion met up against young gun David Dionne in the Men's finals. Simard being the favourite was left on the side lines as Dionne showed the veteran how it was done. Dionne is the 2012 Men's Singles Champion!

The race is on to the the May 1st ranking list with no change in the top 2 places on both the men's and ladies ranking for January 1.
The big change in the ladies is Patricia Farrell of Newfoundland & Labrador and her singles win at the Newfoundland Molson Open which gained her 6 precious points leap frogging her into 3rd place. This move pushed Robin Curry of Ontario to 4th & Roxanne Van Tassel of British Columbia back into 5th spot.
Sylvian Bourque of Quebec jumped up the Men's ranking list into 4th spot with his recent gain of points in the Owen Hunt and Sasha Lemieux tournaments. Rick Arnott of Alberta moved back into 5th spot.

"I'se The B'y that builds the boat and I'se The B'y that sails her and I'se The B'y that catches the fish and Brings 'em home to Lizer"
For those who are not familiar with Newfoundland & Labrador down home culture this fast paced & exciting 'Newfie Jig' (song/dance) is reminiscent of the Molson Canadian Newfoundland Labrador Open...lots of fun, warm hospitality, and fierce competition pushing players to their limits!
Newfoundland's own Patricia Farrell, the 'great Canadian lady of darts' hasn't lost her touch as she wrapped up the ladies finals against Darlene MacLeod of Nova Scotia. A fire cracker of a match, these two gals proved why they are in the top of Canada's ranking list (Farrell #5 & MacLeod #2). Farrell who had finished 2nd to Cindy Veith (Nova Scotia) last year in this event claimed her victory and valuable ranking points with the title.
MacLeod claimed the Ladies Doubles title with partner Cindy Veith against Newfoundland's own Sandra Squire & Joanne Whelan. Keep an eye on these two Nova Scotians (MacLeod & Veith) as they have been tearing up the Canadian ladies darts scene!

He is Canada's youth darter from British Columbia who represented our Nation and finished in the top 16 at the inaugural PDC Under-21 World Championship in England back in 2010. Book took to the stage again this weekend for the men's singles finals against Canada's #1 Norm 'The Storm' Tremblay of Alberta. Book had his work cut out for him against Canada's top gun but Tremblay was able to take the win & add another notch in his Canadian ranking status. With the cold chill of winter on it's way the Nova Scotia Open was the place to heat up with plenty of darting opportunites and the warm friendly smiles of our East Coast community making every darter feel welcome at this annual event.
Halifax's own Cindy Veith, currently ranked #6th in the country, made her mark at this event by defeating Debbie Lewis-Christmas in the coveted ladies singles finals. No easy match as both these ladies are top competitors and each worthy of the title. Veith though slammed that final double for her victory and the crown!

Canada's best made their way from across the country to Trenton, Ontario for the annual Bob Jones Memorial Dart Tournament. Kim and Wally Hilts the tournament organizers, host this annual event in memory of Kim's dad who was an avid darts player. Adding World Darts Federation points to the mix making this ranked tournament is a classic!
Ontario's Debralee Roberts stepped to the oche against Darlene MacLeod of Nova Scotia in the Ladies Singles finals. MacLeod who is ranked # 5 in Canada and a fierce competitor could not dash the hopes of seasoned vet Roberts as she moved into the history books taking the crown and the invitation to the 2012 World Masters in England. Hats off to both ladies as they worked their way through a tough line of competiton of 'who's who' to make the staged finals. This win should help to move Roberts up the ranking system from her current place in 10th spot. NDFC Ladies Ranking list.
